The results are in for the 2009 Colorado Springs Municipal Election. Thirty-two percent of registered voters cast their mail-in ballots, and here are the results:
Scott Hente (District 1) and Darryl Glen (District 2) were both unopposed, though interestingly, the vote count for Hente was 11,673 votes for and 9,142 “blank votes”. Glen received 9,541 votes and there were 5,919 blanks.
Jerry Heimlicher (District 3) beat Dave Gardner by 14% of the vote. Bernie Herpin won the race against Tony Carpenter for District 4 by a margin of 7.9%.
Of course, the most significant part of the ballot were the initiatives up for approval.
- Issue 1A (Jobs) was resoundingly defeated with 62% of the vote (39,030 votes)
- Issue 1B (Revenue Rentention for Essential City Services) barely passed with just 684 more “yes” votes (50.54% of the total vote)
- Issue 1C (Trails, Open Space, and Parks) was defeated by a margin of 1,612 votes (51.29% against).
- Issue 1D (Federal Funding) easily passed with 67.15% of the vote (41,991 votes).
