Each year, the AdAmAn Club makes a frigid trek up Pikes Peak and shoots off fireworks at midnight on December 31st – a tradition that began in 1922. Fred Barr, for whom the famous Barr Trail is named after, made the first hike up the mountain on New Year’s Eve with four other men, known as the Frozen Five.
This year, you can follow the AdAmAn Club’s progress up the peak via their Facebook fan page. They’ve been posted updates and a few pictures of their hike. I wonder if they’ll have cell phone service to update as they get higher up the mountain?
At the time of this post, the temp at the summit of Pikes Peak is -4.1 with a wind chill of -17.9. Brr!
