Did you know that if you’ve recently purchased a home that’s ten-years-or-newer in Colorado Springs, you can get a free tree from the city?
Tree-lined street in the Pine Creek neighborhood in Briargate last fall
As part of the New Home Tree Program, you can apply for a certificate for a free tree (up to $100) from participating nurseries in the Springs. Trees obtained from this grant should be planted along the street frontage and must be considered a suitable variety of tree for a tree-lined street.
The city has an information page about this program with contact phone numbers and a certificate request form. I love driving down tree-lined streets, especially in spring and fall, and how gorgeous would it be if everyone in Colorado Springs took advantage of this! Some newer neighborhoods, such as Cordera, are requiring the homeowner to plant a certain number of trees along the street, so this is a great way to save some cash, fulfill potential homeowner’s association requirements, and beautify your neighborhood.
